Title

Understanding The Freight Business

Aims

Is to develop a cadre of trained middle level personnel for a career in handling of matters relating to transport ,clearance through custom, import and export, useful to Import Export business organizations, Import/Export House, Customs House Agents, Shipping companies.

The course aims at creating a cadre of personnel who can easily take over responsibilities of a modern freight Forwarder's organization handling multi modal transport.

Emphasis is to prove a blended theoretical and applied knowledge and skill.

1-  Describing the roles played by those involved in international multimodal logistics operations.

2-  Describing the infrastructure for the transport of internationally traded goods by surface.

3- Identifying equipment used to pack and transport goods by surface.

Description

Module 1

- The Customs and Excise Act of 1964 As Amended:

Arrangement of Chapters, Schedules &Schedule, Important Sections, Rules.

Module 2

- Classifying Commodities According to the Customs Tariff:

Harmonized Commodity and Coding System (HS), Classification Process, General Rules.

Module 3

- Calculation of Customs Values:

Converting currencies, Governing legislation,GATT, Definitions, Adjustments, Costs, Charges and Expenses, Valuation methods,Valuation codes form SAD, Calculating Customs Value, VDN’s, Calculating Factors,Discounts, Commissions.

Module 4

- Calculation of Duties and Taxes Payable on Internationally Traded Goods:

VAT Act, Imposition of VAT, Collections on imported goods, determination of value, exemptions, Determining the Duties and Taxes Payable.

Module 5

- Customs Clearance in the Forwarding Context:

International Trade, Balance of Payments, Reducing expenditure on Imports, Role of C&F Agent, Trade Agreements, GATT Rules,Tariff reduction, Non-tariff barriers, Technical Barriers to Trade, Trade Organizations, World Trade Organisation, Agreements on Agriculture, Textiles and Clothing, General Agreement on Trade, TRIPS, WIPO, AGOA, SA/EU and SADC.

Module 6

- Export Bills of Entry:

Purpose, Inclusions, Exclusions, Definitions &Acronyms, Policy & Procedures.

SAD 500 Customs Declaration Form,SAD 501 Continuation Sheet,SAD 502 Transit Control,SAD 505 Bond Control,SAD 507 Additional Information Produced Documents,SAD 554 VOC Bill of Entry Export, General Procedures, Measures, Quality.

Module 7

- Import Bills of Entry

Purpose, Inclusions, Exclusions, Definitions &Acronyms, Policy & Procedures.

SAD 500 Customs Declaration Form,SAD 501 Continuation Sheet,SAD 502 Transit Control,SAD 504 VOC Bill of Entry Direct SAD 505 Bond Control,SAD 506 Bill of Entry Direct, SAD 507 Additional Information Produced Documents, SAD 514 Transfer of Liability, SAD 601 Continuation Ex Warehouse Imported Goods,SAD 604 VOC Bill of Entry Ex Warehouse,SAD 611 Continuation SA Products,SAD 614 VOC’s Bill of Entry Ex Warehouse SA Products General Procedures, Measures, Quality Records.

Module 8

- Perform Basic Customs and Carrier Release Procedures.
